We have a new assignment for my time studio class. We are using the program flash to create animated clips....all based on one of three themes (man vs nature, man vs man or man vs technology)..... maybe i'll record each step of a drawing I do in sketch-up (thats a battle for me against technology)

here are some sites that use flash to give us some inspiration

http://www.itwillneverbethesame.com/
(this one is rather simple but it shows how basic lines can create a moving picture....heres a lil hint...hold the mouse down)

http://www.theircircularlife.it/frameset
this one is my favorite of all the sites... it shows the progression of the day from one view. The view springs to life and shows a day go by right before your eyes. It just amuses me!

http://www.thehalcyonhours.com/
this is a simple photography with few drawings to bring the animation to life. it clear and simple which i love for most design but after seeing the last website this one just doesn't add up to it. I'm cruel I know but I love the other site to the max.

3 artist of the week

Jon Gitelson

Something about Jon Gitelson reminds me of my friend Elliott. He has such a light heart and it can be seen through his art. It's his art and many others that truely reflect the person's character and passion. He has a great eye for photography and knows how to please a viewer.

David Hockney

David Hockney blew me away the first artwork I viewed of his. Its a mosaic of photographs and forms a true art piece. I absolutely love the energy conveyed by these pieces and want one for myself. His work makes one focus on the whole while looking at all the individual piece.

Jeff Wolin

I can't choose a favorite of these three but I can not stop looking at Jeff Wolin's work. They are so playful but yet sincere. These above are part of his "Family Portraits" and the writting or detail he puts into the photos make it an art just not photography alone. I love the focus on children in his work and the simple childish drawings added to each.

Spring please stay

Richmond has some great weather...especially today. It was 75 degrees during the day and right now it is 60 out! Spring is my favorite season and all i want to do is to be outside.

Einstein's Dream

Reading a very inspiring book Einstein's Dreams by Alan Lightman. It makes you settle down and really contemplate time and possibilities. I highly recommend it to anyone...truely genius but shows Einstein's soft feelings. It is a collection of Einstein's short stories, each focusing on a different aspect of time (all set in "worlds")

this lil peak into the book is from a short story where at some point in a persons life they see a glimpse at their future....

"For those who have had a vision, this is a world of guaranteed success. Few projects are started that do not advance a career. Few trips are taken that do not lead to the city of destiny. Few friends are made who will not be friends in the future. Few passions wasted...
...Who would fare better in this world of fitful time? Those who have seen the future and live only one life? Or those who have not seen the future and wait to live life? Or those who deny the future and live two lives?"

What makes me...me

Hi! I haven't had the chance to introduce myself so here we go.

My name is Kate. I am from Souderton, Pa and have lived there my whole life. I come from a full, loving home with my mom and dad (debbie and mario), my older sister Becky, older brother Gregg, and younger sister Natalie. Can't imagine not having a large family-there is never a dull moment. I am an aunt too! Becky married Tyler a farmer from Kansas (he's got a masters-smart one) and now they have a baby named Eve Elaine Rider. She is adorable and such a blessing.

(mason, me, natalie, becky, tiffany(greggs gf) and gregg)

Hope you got all of that.....heres some more
I grew up playing sports and soccer and field hockey became a passion (especially soccer)
Since age 12 I wanted to be an interior designer and now go to VCU for it
I can't live without seasons (real one....snow and all)
I have a cat named Sadie.... and my family has 2 dogs and 2 cats
Mason Cooper Logan is the boy on the front picture with me... finally found "him"
and right now I live in Richmond

Eve and her momma Becky

VCU is again my friend

being back at VCU has been great so far. Its such a funny place. So many people around here a person can not go a day without witnessing something hilarious...it could just be what someone is wearing. For instance me and my friends see this "dark lord" crusing around VCU all the time decked out in a full trench coat and hood all in black....its like the Lord of the Rings popped out of the movie for a second for our entertainment. Its become a game to find him.....

enough about Richmond....I have been keeping busy doing projects, classes, the gym and just living independantly and clean is work. Its so great to be back on my own (i love you mom and dad)! The other day went fondue-ing for the first time and loved it! first of all i love bread and second i love cheese.....o and chocolate! so i loved it and am sure i will add a fondue to my want/need list.
